“A Gift For The Giver”
I am reminded of an elder of a church who loves to invite people to join the army of Christ. After a worship service, she greeted a man in uniform and gladly issued the invitation: we would love to have you in the army of Christ, Sir. Smilingly the officer responded: I am already enlisted, Mam. The elder momentarily kept quiet and politely asked, thank you, Sir, how come I only see you on Christmas and Resurrection Service. Mam, whispering to the elder, I am in a secret service.
Nicodemus preferred to be a secret disciple.
When the gift of light is available and we still pretend to be in the dark, groping and allowing darkness to hover upon us, and eventually consume us is a tragedy. The good news is that Jesus is patiently leading us to the light regardless of our response—of our choice. From the very beginning the gift of light is always available for the world – for you and for me.
