4th Sunday After Resurrection
Mother’s Day

“love…life”

On the final night of Jesus’ life, there was the Passover meal in the Upper Room. The next day would be an eventful one as Jesus will be executed on the cross and His body will be laid in His tomb. Then two miserable revelations were brought to light: Judas was identified as the betrayer and sent out in the night to do his treachery, and Peter denied Jesus.

3rd Sunday After Resurrection

“love…life”

I believe everyone has heard of or even memorized the 23rd Psalm. It’s a poem and has been called the sweetest psalm ever written. Everyone is quoting Psalm 23 to be comforted.

Since this psalm is so familiar, we’re in danger of missing the depth of its meaning. Because its setting is in the world of sheep and shepherds, many of us today can slide right past its richness. Are you aware the Bible refers to us as sheep nearly two hundred times? This is not usually a compliment because sheep are smelly, stubborn, short-sighted and prone to wander.

Holy Monday – Resurrection Sunday

“Selah” – a sigh, a pause, a word of praise, whatever this Hebrew word means which is said to appear 74 times in the Bible, 71 times in Psalms and 3 times in Habakkuk, we are called to take time to reflect, to watch, to feel the stirrings of God’s Spirit that we may be renewed and come out as fresh as the morning dew. The daily reflections from the book of Psalms this Holy Week woven with certain events in the last days of Jesus’ earthly life leading to Calvary provide us a moment to also cry out like the psalmist and make meaning out of our current global situation. The psalms are laments in poetical form which may begin with a complaint or an existential question but mostly ends with praise and honor to God who is at the inner core of every human being.

This Holy Week 2020 Daily Devotionals was adapted from the United Methodist Church Discipleship Ministries Selah Holy Week Devotional with Derek Weber as author (https://www.umcdiscipleship.org/articles/selah- devotional-holy-week-2020). The EMC Ministerial Team just added a section for reflection and a suited hymn to lead everyone to a meaningful interaction. During days with special services, the Selah Daily Devotional is integrated in it.

Have a spiritually nourishing time with God this Holy Week!

Palm Sunday

A TRUE SERVANT OF GOD
Matthew 21:8-11

Have you ever encountered a very famous person? What was your feeling? Excited or nervous? Maybe you may have felt somewhat intimidated especially if that person seemed arrogant. People of status and image can easily make us feel inferior, as if we have nothing to offer by comparison. No wonder, we long for the traits of compassion and humility in society’s leaders. But sadly, in these critical times the people we elected in positions as servant community leaders are hardly to be found. As some people say, “Nuong panahon ng eleksyon ang kasuluk-sulukan na lugar ay napupuntahan upang mangampanya, ngayong may pangangailangan ang mamamayan hindi mo na mahagilap o makita”.
