“The Irrefutable Servant Of God”
1 Thessalonians 2:1-8
In citing Paul’s experiences in following Christ and in living his faith, we can draw a lot of truths on what it takes to be a true servant of God. But first, let me ask this question: how often do we hear the word “servant?” When and where do we usually hear the said word? I know that you will agree with me that most often the word is used during the election campaign period, right? Many politicians use the said word to make people believe how prepared and serious they are to serve. But sadly, after winning the election, the word becomes easily forgotten, for many of them are ready not to serve but to be served. What about in the church? Do we value the word servant in terms of the responsibility it entails as servant leader of God? Ang sarap pakinggan — “servant leader,” but have we thought of the accountability that goes with it? Or, do we really take it as a God given task to fullfill faithfully? Sadly, some take it as a word or title that just adds prestige or honor for themselves. If the said mentality pervades in the church, undoubtedly, the mission and the ministry will suffer.
